About & roadmap
Vitrinode is a Linux infrastructure management platform in active development by Vitrinode Ltd. It brings host inventory, device identity, remote operations and infrastructure visibility into one management plane. The project began on a personal Proxmox/Linux estate, with least privilege and auditability guiding its design.

Why the name Vitrinode?
Vitri- draws on vitreous and vitrine — glass, clarity and visibility. A vitrine is a glass-fronted display cabinet — something whose purpose is to make what it contains visible while keeping it contained and ordered. Node is the practical half of Vitrinode — the hosts, virtual machines, containers and other infrastructure nodes the platform is intended to make visible.
There is also a South Yorkshire layer to the name. Vitrinite and vitrinoid are coal-related terms associated with a glassy lustre, tying neatly back to vitri- while referencing the project's origins in Barnsley and the wider South Yorkshire coalfield.

Recent development
Most recent first.
- — Vitrinode Ltd incorporated.
- September 2026 — persistent HSM CA storage in development. Keystore codec validation is complete; flash storage and boot-time CA loading are undergoing hardware acceptance.
- September 2026 — HSM Phase 2 complete. A certificate issued by the physical RP2350 device successfully authenticated against stock OpenSSH. Server integration remains planned.
- Phase 7 complete — device attestation with vTPM quotes and an explicit software-evidence fallback, verified on real TPM hardware
- Phase 6 complete — read-only Proxmox VE inventory, device correlation and live cluster verification
- Phase 5 complete — signed, replay-protected remote jobs and privileged executor separation
- Phase 4 complete — full inventory collection (system, storage, network, systemd, APT, Docker)
- Phase 3 complete — WebAuthn/FIDO2 authentication and step-up
